1950
Foundation of the "Webbs-Memorial"

1936

Care of orphans in several church facilities in Madras.


1953

Acquired the current building in Madras by the Edwards family, which became married to Hemalata in 1969.
Usage of the site solely for church and charity ends. Taking in the first 10 children on a full-time basis.


1970
A grateful Hindu-family donated a 72.842 m² piece of hilly, rocky land at the border of Tamil Nadu and Andhra
in Surutupalli, 60 kilometers away from Madras. Temporary, straw covered quarters were built. In both places,
a total of 50 children found a home.


1975
Construction of stone houses to replace the huts, school, church and an ambulant hospital ward for the village.

1976
Sponsorship by the protestant parish of Baiersdorf.


1976, 1979, 1981
Visit by Hemalata and Hubert in Germany.


1989
Expansion of the full-time care program to 300 children. First official short visit of a member of the protestant
parish of Baiersdorf. Irmgard Castelhun visited the Webbs-Home in Madras after a trip for the "Andheri"
projects in the south of India.


1990
Visit by Hemalata in Germany for an informational trip with Irmgard Castelhun to the church parishs
and schools in and around Erlangen.


1992
Second 9-week visit of Irmgard Castelhun in both orphanages including an assessment of necessary projects
that had to be postponed due to a lack of funds.


1994
The large donation by a Forchheim, Germany-based music publisher means a breakthrough for the planned projects.
The management of around 20 sponsors and the managing of the Hemalata donation account is transferred to
Irmgard Castelhun by the protestant parish of Baiersdorf.


1989 – 2016
In this period, Irmgard Castelhun, later accompanied by her husband Dieter, took 21 trips to Hemalata.
The number of children increased for 150 (1989) to 430 (2001), in 2014 there were 300 children.

The number of sponsorships increased from 20 in 1994 to 200 in 2016. You can read more about the carried out

2013
Change of the present organisation of Webbs Memorial into a trust.


2014
The ZION TECHNICAL INSTITUTE has met all structural standards. As a test, apprentices were increasingly trained
in half-year courses (60 apprentices in Basic Elektro, 30 in computers, 40 in tailors).

Our monthly payments were increased by 30% due to inflation.


2015
The Special Welfare Ministry has set new minimum standards for charities. Construction of a dwelling house for boys
from 12 years, construction of new toilets and washrooms, increase of the care staff.


2016
Topping up of the residential building.

We receive pre-approval from the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the establishment of an Industrial Technical Institute (ITI).
Here we can train apprentices to become skilled workers in 2-year courses.


2017 – 2019
Constructing a new Building for male youth above 14 years, Purchase of a Van for Transport in ZION Home,
and start of education of youth as skilled workers (2-Years courses) in ZION Home
